Sheba Health Centre and after-hours services in Chatmohar

Sheba Primary Health Care Initiative will expand its activities in the rural town of Chatmohar very soon. There is a small government hospital in the town and it is always overcrowded. People have to wait in a long queue to receive treatment and often have to sacrifice their working hours as well as wages. Moreover, the hospital outpatient department closes at 2.00 pm making health care access difficult to the marginalised working people.

Shebe Health Centre in Chatmohar will operates 6 days a week run by a Medical officer and a
Sub-Assistant Community Medical Officer (SACMO). A nominal fee is charged to those who
are able to pay. The very poor receive free consultations. The centre is operational since
January 2023.

The centre will be run by the SACMO (Sub Assistant Community Medical Officer) on the 6th day from 9.00 am – 7.00 pm. The ultra-poor will receive free consultation. The SACMO will also run a screening programme (free of cost) for 3 non-communicable diseases: Hypertension, Diabetes and Chronic Kidney Disease.

The SACMO will also offer after hours home visit service on an on-call basis in case of emergency for the elderly, disable and palliative care patients who are unable to attend our centre.

The screening service and the after-hours service will be the first of its kind in Chatmohar.
