Sheba’s next project will be Training and Employment Programme of the ‘Home Health Care Assistants(HHCA).’ As the number of aging population in increasing in Bangladesh, many of them are becoming bed ridden, some of them becoming palliative care patients. The Aged Care sector has not been developed yet to cater for the increased demand. The situation is particularly grim in the middle class and lower middle class families in the urban areas. These communities have increased demand for the service but can’t afford the cost for it as the prevailing services are designed for the high end of the market and are very expensive.
Sheba, along with its partner organisation in Bangladesh (Alternative Approach) is developing a training and employment programme for such a service as a pilot project aiming at the middle and lower middle income earning families in Dhaka. The HHCA will be assigned to care of the bed ridden elderly people and palliative care patient. They will be trained to provide basic health care for those people.
The aim of this project will be developing human resource in this sector, employment creation and rendering service in this underserved area.
